World Premiere of The Fantastic Mr. Fox Announced
2009-07-28 09:00:13The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson's first animated film, will have its world premiere at The Times BFI London Film Festival on October 14, 2009. The film is co-written by co-written by Noah Baumbach. Wes Anderson, and voice talent George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and Jason Schwartzman are expected to attend the opening night screening. The Fantastic Mr. Fox uses classic handmade stop motion techniques to tell the story of the best selling childrens book by British author Roald Dahl. The film won't open in wide release until November 13th, 2009. We'll admit: we're excited. Anderson's last film The Darjeeling Limited, the spiritual journey of three brothers through India on a slow moving train, was funny and moving and profound -- and a visual treat at that. Let's see what the filmmaker will achieve with animation.
Review: Fantastic Mr. Fox
2009-11-14 09:00:04What a fantastic idea it was for Wes Anderson to adapt Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox. Anderson and his co-conspirator Noah Baumbach holed away in Dahl's cottage in England to write the screenplay, fleshing out the classic children's story into an animated feature length-film. While the result may certainly please kids (though in some instances there is cause for genuine alarm), it's cinema-candy for grown-ups. I left the screening room thinking, I want to see this movie again. The fantastic cast of voices includes George Clooney, Meryl Streep, and Wes Anderson regulars Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman. Fantastic Mr. Fox opens today in New York and Los Angeles, before going wide on November 25. Read Marcy's review.
